It is normal for smoke to be thicker at the beginning of a cook. As the grill gets closer to the smoke temperatures, the smoke will thin out. Give the grill some time for the smoke to thin out.
If the smoke remains thick.
It is likely that the fire is not reaching the proper temperature and the pellets are just cindering. If this is the case, look at the following items:
• The most common problem would be the pellets. If they are holding moisture they will not burn as hot. Pellets may be compromised if they are light in color, dull, dusty, break easily, or if the bag the pellets came in has a lot of sawdust. Even if you believe your pellets are ok, try a fresh batch just to be sure. Sometimes, pellets can take on moisture without us noticing. • Ensure the induction fan is working properly. You should be able to feel the air blowing into the firepot. Be sure not to touch the hotrod while testing this. The fan should not make any loud noises, such as scraping or squealing. If it is, please contact Customer Service.
NOT ENOUGH SMOKE
A lot of people, when they think of a smoker, think of a grill billowing thick white smoke. This is not the type of smoke we want to produce.
Z Grills Wood Pellet Grills produce a superior thin blue smoke that provides a cleaner, smoker flavor. Often, the smoke is so thin it only appears as heat waves coming off the grill. However, it is there. You will be able to see the smoke rings on your meat and taste the difference.
D2 GRILL NOT IGNITING

Check the quality of the pellets. • Ideally, check the pellets at the end of the auger. • Pellets should have a nice sheen to them and have a nice "snap" to them when breaking. • If the pellets crumble or do not have that sheen, try some fresh pellets.
Listen for the fan. • You should be able to hear it and feel some airflow when you have your hand in the firepot. • If the fan is completely dead, please contact Customer Service.
